About Trinity
Trinity is a city in Randolph County with 7,006 residents in the 2020 census. It is named after Trinity College, which began as Brown's Schoolhouse in 1838, took the Trinity College name in 1859 and moved to Durham in 1892, where it later became Duke University (Wikipedia: Trinity, North Carolina). Trinity covers almost 17 square miles, so homes are spread out, many on larger lots.
Rural lots, more exposure
Larger, more open lots catch more wind during thunderstorms, and long tree lines along property edges drop limbs during ice. NOAA's Storm Prediction Center outlooks regularly flag the central Piedmont for severe weather (NOAA Storm Prediction Center). Roofs on open ground benefit from stronger edge and nailing details; IBHS's FORTIFIED Home standard lists them (IBHS FORTIFIED Home program).
Metal roofs and outbuildings
Barns, shops and detached garages are common around Trinity, and many have metal roofs. Some homeowners choose metal for the house too. See metal roofing.
Suburban neighborhoods
Subdivisions closer to Archdale and I-85 have shingle roofs that are reaching replacement age. Ventilation and decking checks are worth including.
